Everyone is invited to drop by the community-wide National Celebrate Trails Day event on Saturday, April 25, 9-11 AM at Co-op Park.
A Free Community Open House
15+ area groups and organizations have been invited to be on hand to talk about their events, activities, membership opportunities, and volunteer opportunities. Meet Striker, the Ambassador Horse, a friendly Arabian. Striker will anchor a booth by local equestrians with information about what to do if you encounter a horse on a trail.
Another highlight of the morning will be an "Outdoor Assembly" photo op at 10:00 AM sharp. Everyone present will be invited to stand together on National Celebrate Trails Day in collective support of trails and open spaces. Facilitated by the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce, you are invited to bring a favorite piece of trail or outdoor gear (walking stick, trekking pole, mountain bike, etc.) for the photo.
In conjunction with the photo op, Places and Spaces Los Alamos (PSLA) expects to announce the first recipient(s) of $500 Trail Catalyst Grants, which support local groups in sustaining outdoor and trail events and in creating new ones.
The overall event marks the official launch of www.pajaritotrails.us — a starting place for residents and visitors alike to find out about the area's outdoor experience. The digital hub provides direct links to interactive trail maps and area outdoor and trails-related news. Learn more at the PTS station.
Community Hike:
The event concludes at 11:00 AM when a group hike/walk will depart for the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) via the new Urban Trail. This is an easy, 1-mile route, and no one will be left behind. The hike leaders plan to stop off at the beer garden at Bathtub Row on the walk back (you are welcome to join them).
